Mentoring Opportunities

A core tenet of the Florida Cancer Registrars Association (FCRA) is that we all succeed when we work together. Whether you’re just starting out in the field or you’ve been working as a medical professional for decades, a mentoring relationship will help you reconsider and improve your approach to the work you do.

Want to be Successful?
Talk to Someone
Who’s Been There.

You learn a lot in the classroom and on the job but to really excel as a cancer registrar, you’ll want to connect with one of our experienced mentors. They’re cancer registrars who are at the top of their field. They’re dedicated to their work, they’ve faced challenges like the ones you’re encountering and they can help you navigate your career to just where you want it to be.

A FCRA mentor can help you grow your professional network, broaden and deepen your knowledge of the field, build soft skills like communications and relationship-building and hone your technical abilities. A mentoring relationship can help you grow as a person and a professional, setting you up for success at work and beyond.

Now, Burner is regional senior manager of Oncology Accreditation Data at AdventHealth Orlando, responsible for cancer program activity at eight facilities in Central Florida. She is a past program chair and current president-elect/secretary for the Florida Cancer Registrars Association. Barbara J. Dearmon, BS, CTR

Barbara J. Dearmon is a former National Cancer Registrars Association president and has held several roles on the Florida Cancer Registrars Association board. Her work as FCRA program chair was particularly fulfilling, as it allowed her to work with other volunteers to coordinate educational programs. Dearmon is passionate about mentoring individuals in the cancer registry profession to groom them for success in becoming a certified tumor registrar. She believes in paying it forward by sharing her skills and knowledge regarding the cancer registrar profession within the community and at college health information technology programs. Dearmon is family-oriented, loves to travel, and enjoys listening to smooth jazz.
